On-Screen CBT Tutorial

Preview the on-screen tutorial that you will see before you begin your test. This tutorial includes information about how to navigate through a test, how to select your answers, and how to end the test.

Screen Color and Font Adjustment

These features, as noted in the interactive tutorial, may not be available for all tests.

Font adjustment is available for some tests using keyboard shortcuts:

• Some tests render content on the screen. Therefore, the common functions of a web browser are available to all candidates. To adjust content in a web browser, candidates can use these key combinations:
  • Ctrl + enlarges
  • Ctrl − minus  decreases
  • Ctrl 0 resets the view to 100%
• This is common functionality for most if not all web browsers.
• For font enlargement greater than 200%, you may wish to submit an Alternative Testing Arrangements Request form and supporting documentation in order to request screen magnification software.

On-Screen Calculator Preview

An on-screen scientific or standard 4-function calculator is available for some NYSTCE tests.

Some NYSTCE tests require you to bring your own graphing calculator. For information on which tests use the on-screen scientific calculator, use the on-screen four-function calculator, or require you to bring your own graphing calculator, see "The Day of the Test."

Character Selector

Some tests in the NYSTCE program allow you to type your response in the target language using the character selector feature.

Test-specific character selector tutorial videos are available for review and practice. Review the preparation materials for your test to see if your test includes the character selector feature.

The Content Specialty Tests in Languages Other Than English (LOTE), Bilingual Education Assessments (BEAs), and the American Sign Language (ASL) test have unique test features. Read the information below that includes links to tutorials and videos to learn about these features.

Speaking

Some tests in the NYSTCE program include one or more assignments that require you to record a spoken response. Refer to the interactive tutorial for information on how to use the audio capture feature.

American Sign Language

The NYSTCE ASL test includes two expressive production assignments and receptive comprehension questions. Refer to the ASL study guide for information on

Character Selector

Some tests in the NYSTCE program allow you to type your response in the target language using the character selector feature.

Input Method Editor (IME)

Some tests in the NYSTCE program allow you to type your response in the target language using Input Method Editor (IME) technology.

Scanning Instructions

Some NYSTCE tests allow you to handwrite or draw written responses, and then scan them into the computer using a scanner provided at your workstation. Click the links below to review the scanning process.
