Male: Маша, привет! Наконец-то ты в Америке! Мы тебя заждались!

Female: Да, наконец-то я здесь, так долго готовилась к этой поездке!

Male: Расскажи, как ты долетела?

Female: Долетела нормально, но в Питере думала, что опоздаю на самолёт. Перекрыли дорогу в аэропорт, все машины просто встали.

Male:

In the middle of the dialogue, the male speaker asks Masha about the possibility of visiting museums at night in Saint Petersburg: Один мой друг рассказывал, что в он в Питере ходил в музеи ночью. Это возможно? Masha responds that he probably has in mind the Night of Museums, in which museums, planetariums, libraries, and even zoos stay open at night: Он, наверное, имел ввиду «Ночь музеев». Это когда музеи открыты всю ночь и любой желающий может прийти, бесплатно посмотреть экспозиции, поучаствовать в интерактивных лекциях, семинарах, послушать концерты живой музыки. Masha then says that during the Night of Museums last year, she herself visited a zoo: В прошлому году, например, мы ходили ночью в зоопарк и увидели то, что дневные посетители не видят. А именно – как спят слоны.

At the end of the dialogue, the male speaker remarks that Saint Petersburg is known as an open-air museum, and its residents are known as museum workers: Я слышал, что Петербург называют музеем под открытым небом, а всех его жителей – музейными работниками. Masha then explains that this is because the city contains great architecture and art and its residents enjoy telling visitors about them: Это правда. В Петербурге много достопримечательностей и исторических мест. Мы часто бываем в музеях. Петербуржец в музее чувствует себя как рыба в воде. Мы очень гордимся своим городом и с удовольствием рассказываем приезжим истории, связанные с известными жителями города, его архитектурой и искусством.

Correct Response: A. This question requires examinees to make inferences or draw conclusions based on the context, situation, and information given in a spoken message. Перекрыли дорогу в аэропорт, все машины просто встали. She explains that this was due to the International Museum Forum occurring in the city: У нас начинается Международный музейный форум на базе Эрмитажа.

Correct Response: A. This question requires examinees to determine the meaning and nuances of words and phrases as they are used in spoken messages, including commonly used idiomatic expressions, figurative language, and common colloquial and culturally authentic expressions. At the end of the dialogue, Masha explains that residents of Saint Petersburg, when they find themselves in a museum, feel like fish in water: Петербуржец в музее чувствует себя как рыба в воде. She goes on to explain that this is because they enjoy telling visitors about the city's famous residents, architecture, and art: Мы очень гордимся своим городом и с удовольствием рассказываем приезжим истории, связанные с известными жителями города, его архитектурой и искусством. In this way, the city itself is like a museum and those who live there are like museum workers. Therefore, when visiting any museum, a Saint Petersburg resident feels well and at ease: ему хорошо и свободно в музее, like a fish in water.

5. Когда Маша говорит «теперь дошла очередь до Санкт-Петербурга», это значит, что:

  1. она планирует найти работу в Петербурге.

Correct Response: C. This question requires examinees to determine an assumption, an intent, a perspective, or a point of view by analyzing the communicative strategies and social and cultural contexts of a spoken message. When Masha says, теперь дошла очередь до Санкт-Петербурга (now the turn has reached Saint Petersburg) toward the beginning of the dialogue, she means that this year, unlike in previous years, the International Museum Forum is taking place right there in Saint Petersburg. This is also made clear in the first part of her statement about this: У нас начинается Международный музейный форум на базе Эрмитажа. Это уже третий по счёту – до этого такой форум проводили в Казани и в Москве …
